<strong>About the course</strong><br/><br/>BA History is modern, inclusive and relevant, with a contemporary focus that helps you navigate pressing cultural, environmental, social and political challenges. You will discover how people, ideas and events have shaped societies across time, investigating themes such as power, identity, conflict, belief and social change.<br/><br/>Focusing on the period since 1800, you will examine the cultural, political and environmental forces that continue to influence societies across the globe. You will explore how History is recorded, interpreted and represented, engage directly with external practitioners in heritage, museums, archives and media, and learn beyond the classroom through site visits and walking tours that make full use of London’s historical resources. History at Roehampton is recognised as a top modern university in London for History and ranked 12th best History programme in the UK in the Guardian League Table 2024, with History ranked 1st in London for Academic Support in the National Student Survey 2024.<br/><br/><strong>What you’ll study</strong><br/><br/>You’ll build a solid foundation in modern global history, while gaining professional skills valued across heritage, public service, education and media sectors, including critical analysis, global and comparative thinking, research using primary sources, public history practice, digital humanities methods and effective communication.<br/><br/>Modules offered can vary each year but may include:<br/><br/>• The History Lab<br/><br/>• American Civil Rights from Truman to Trump<br/><br/>• Political Concepts: Ideas in Context<br/><br/>• Britain from the Blitz to Brexit<br/><br/><strong>How you’ll learn</strong><br/><br/>You will learn through:<br/><br/>• Dynamic workshops built around discussion, debate and interactive challenges<br/><br/>• Investigation of primary sources including archival documents, oral testimony, images, objects and digital collections<br/><br/>• Field trips and walking tours using London’s world class historical resources<br/><br/>• Collaborative projects including public history and digital humanities work<br/><br/>• 100% coursework assessment including essays, presentations, creative outputs and a final year research project<br/><br/>You will also have access to dedicated computer and study rooms and extensive digital and print library resources to support your independent research.<br/><br/><strong>Future opportunities</strong><br/><br/>A History degree opens doors and is designed with your future in mind.
