### What you’ll learn on our History degree
* Explore how different societies across the world have changed over time. You can investigate Scottish history from the Viking period to the present day. Also British, European, American and African history since around 1700.
* Engage with various types of history including political, social, cultural, gender, race and environmental.
* Learn how to locate and evaluate historical interpretations in secondary literature.
* Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the problematic nature of the past.
* Become adept in communicating arguments and analysis, both independently and within peer groups.
* Use historical concepts to interpret and draw conclusions from primary sources.
* Gain an understanding of how forms of historical enquiry inform specific professional sectors and areas of employment.
* Apply your learning to produce an extended piece of research in an area of history you’re passionate about.
Learning a language can change your life. It can unlock a world of travel and global work opportunities. Spanish is consistently ranked as one of the most in-demand languages for UK employers. It’s needed for communication across international business and finance (Source: People Management).
### Learn from history experts
You’ll be taught by staff whose research placed us in the top 15 in the UK for research impact and 3rd in Scotland for research outputs and impact (REF 2021). See more about history research.
You’ll also benefit from guest speakers in our employability module – Back to the Future: putting history and heritage to work. Past speakers include:
* Michael Terwey, Director of Public Engagement and Research at National Trust for Scotland. He spoke on working in the heritage sector and career development.
* Rosie al-Mulla Taylor, Archivist in the University of Stirling Information Services. Rosie focused on managing the Scottish Political Archive and the NHS Forth Valley Archive. She also looked at careers working in archives.
### History on your doorstep at Stirling
Stirling's castle, battles, and royal connections make it one of the most historically important cities in Scotland.
Your history learning is brought alive with field trips to nearby places like Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and Doune Castle. Perth Museum, Edinburgh Castle, and the National Museum of Scotland have also been field trip destinations.
We can teach you Spanish from beginner or advanced level. You’ll develop confident speaking, reading and writing skills while exploring the cultures of Spain and Latin America.
