You’ll explore how to improve the health of the population.  This means you’ll cover everything from the fundamentals of diet and fitness, through to the key social issues involved in sport and exercise on this wide-ranging degree.

You’ll be equipped to work in a wide range of fitness and health professions. We produce graduates who are ready for the fast moving and demanding work environments of the food and fitness sectors.

Our courses are ideal for secondary school leavers, entrants from further education colleges, and mature students. The course is also aligned with the General Teaching Council (GTC) requirements for the PG Diploma in Home Economics teaching if that’s your plan after graduation. 

This Fitness, Nutrition and Health degree is accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN), the professional body for Registered Nutritionists. Abertay ranked top in Scotland for Food Science (The Times Good University Guide 2025).

For the first two years, everyone takes Food Science, Nutrition and Wellbeing as a foundation. After that, you’ll specialise, and take this course in years three and four.

You’ll explore how nutrition and fitness impact on health. Plus, there are built-in work placements as part of the course. We aim to give you work placements matched to your career interests. 

You’ll also hear guest speaks from a range of organisations, including Abertay Alumni, the Food Industry and NHS Tayside.
