Course Overview - Modern Languages and Cymraeg (Welsh) BA (Hons)

This degree provides an exciting opportunity to learn about languages, culture and history in a Welsh and international context. You can combine a Modern language (Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish, from beginners or advanced level) with the study of Welsh. Half your taught modules in each year will be in modern languages and half will be in Welsh. In Welsh, you will learn about diverse aspects of Welsh culture from a variety of different periods, while language modules will help you to thrive in a bilingual and multilingual environment.

Level 3 qualifications can also be considered in conjunction with another qualification in Welsh and/or a relevant Modern Language (e.g. A level or IB Higher). No Modern Language required for language-beginners' route. For those seeking to study Chinese, a demonstrable interest, but no prior knowledge required.

Scottish Higher

Minimum of 5 Scottish Highers - some subject specific grades/Advanced Highers may be required.

Access to HE Diploma

Pass required. (Can be considered in conjunction with A level or IB Higher in relevant modern language and/or Welsh.)

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Pass required. Including grade H6 in Welsh and grade H5 in relevant modern language. (Note: Can also be considered in conjunction with another level 3 qualification in Welsh.; No modern language required for language-beginners' route.)

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Extended Project

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (first teaching September 2015)

We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.

A level

Including: Grade B in Welsh (or a grade B in an Arts or Humanities subject studied through the medium of Welsh - e.g. French, German, History, Geography, Religious Studies); Relevant modern language preferred (no modern language required for modern language-beginners' route). General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted.

T Level

T Level qualifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
