Our BA in Modern History, Politics and International Relations explores a range of historical and political themes which are central to today's political and social landscapes.
Through a mix of core and optional modules, you'll explore the people, ideas and movements that have influenced societies around the world.
You'lll examine how communities and nations have changed over time, exploring political, social, economic and cultural developments across the British Isles, Europe (east and West), Africa, Asia and the Americas. You'll investigate topics ranging from social and gender history to emerging fields such as digital and public history.
You'll also explore how power works at local, national and global levels. You'll examine ideas such as democracy, freedom and justice and the relations between states and non-state actors, while engaging with contemporary issues including conflict, security, governance, populism and gender.
Learning how to connect past and present, analyse complex evidence and understand different perspectives, you'll develop sought-after skills in research, communication and critical thinking, preparing you for a wide range of careers in an increasingly interconnected world.

You must have or be working towards: - English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements.
Extended Project
For applicants taking the EPQ qualification, an A in the EPQ can be recognised to lower the entry requirements by a single grade. For example an AAB offer would be “AAB from 3 A levels or ABB from 3 A levels and a grade A in the EPQ”. Please note that any subject specific requirements must be met.
