The aim of the BA (Hons) Design Practice course seeks to provide a sound academic context for students to pursue their own routes towards a degree while exploring alternative areas of practice and knowledge to develop careers in design disciplines and in inter-disciplinary practices across the wider Creative Industries. This degree will have a distinctive profile, it will allow students to come from a variety of different HND specialist subject areas.
As indicated in the title, this course will predominantly be practical based with a strong focus on understanding the multi-faceted requirements of an ever-changing dynamic industry and how to develop the skills and knowledge to meet these demands. This course is a top-up degree for students who have completed an HND in a design related subject.
The course will be underpinned by direct engagement with Industry through work placements, mentorship and industry led projects. Collaboration will be a key factor throughout the course, with dedicated modules at both levels, and further opportunities in other project-based modules for students to work collaboratively where appropriate. There will also be specialist modules which will encourage an informed, critical and practical approach to understanding current and future employment opportunities across design-based areas and the wider Creative industries.
