The Pearson BTEC Higher National in Healthcare Professions Support in England is designed to develop independent, reflective, and innovative professionals who are equipped to meet employer expectations and adapt within an evolving healthcare landscape.
This course emphasises integrated, compassionate, and person-centred support for physical and mental health across the lifespan, alongside developing an understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural perspectives, and inclusive values. It aims to prepare students to become patient-focused practitioners who can lead improvements, collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and respond confidently to complex, real-world healthcare challenges.
The programme is aimed at students from diverse backgrounds, including those currently working in health and social care who wish to progress within the sector, looking to upskill and progress into managerial roles or continue into higher education pathways. This could include pre-registration degrees in nursing or allied healthcare professions, as well as developing strong foundations for roles such as healthcare assistant practitioner, nursing assistant, and positions in care navigation, planning, and assessment, while addressing contemporary challenges in healthcare.
Students undertake a minimum of two days per week in a health and/ or social care work placement and, over the duration of the course, complete at least 450 hours of practical placement experience. Please note that all students are required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to confirm suitability for placement.
