Focus: *Reframing Wellbeing Through the Lens of Disability and Social Justice*
This interdisciplinary programme invites students to critically explore wellbeing as a collective, relational, and justice-oriented concept. Moving beyond individualistic or medicalised models, the course examines how wellbeing is shaped by social structures, policies, and cultural narratives that often marginalise disabled people. Students engage with frameworks from disability justice, social policy, and public health to question who is afforded wellbeing, under what conditions, and how systemic inequities—such as ableism, poverty, and exclusion—affect health and flourishing.
Core Themes:
* Wellbeing as a social and political construct
* Disability, access, and equity in systems of care
* The role of ableism in defining health and normalcy
* Interdependence, collective care, and community resilience
* Intersectional approaches to wellbeing across race, class, gender, and citizenship
Student Engagement and Innovation (Year 1): \
To promote early engagement and retention, first-year learning emphasises active participation, creativity, and applied learning. Students collaborate on community-based projects, digital storytelling, and inclusive design challenges that reimagine environments and policies supporting wellbeing. Teaching methods combine interactive seminars, reflective journals, and peer-led discussions to encourage critical dialogue and self-awareness. Assessment prioritises portfolio-based evaluation, allowing students to demonstrate innovation through multimedia work, collaborative research, or advocacy initiatives rather than traditional exams
