Our Game Art Foundation Degree programme is an exciting two-year course based in Bristol at our University Centre Wise campus. The course is focused on providing you with the relevant skills to become a game artist, build a thorough portfolio ready to land your first job.\
This foundation degree programme will develop professional skills required to create innovative and captivating game content. You will also gain valuable knowledge on how to succeed in the games industry using industry-standard software, methods, and pipelines. Software used includes Unreal Engine game development software; Autodesk Maya 3D modelling software; ZBrush sculpting software; Photoshop image-editing software and Adobe Substance Suite, 3D scene rendering software.\
Within the course, you will focus on well-established visual elements of games. You will develop your drawing and design skills with intent on applying these to related elements, such as concepting; character and environment art and 3D modelling. Complementing this learning, you will study emerging and specialist areas within the games industry, providing you with insight into the latest trends, preparing you skillset for jobs now and in the future.\
Combining creativity with emerging and established technology, you will be part of a foundation degree offering innovation, imagination, and employability at its heart.\
Get Kraken, our in-house studio offers an exciting opportunity for you to work in a real studio alongside your studies. If selected, you will become part of the team designing and developing a game to be released in the 2nd year of the course.\
Once you have completed this two-year Game Art Foundation Degree programme you can top-up your qualification by completing our BA (Hons) Game Art and Production.
What projects will I work on?\
The Game Art Foundation Degree programme is split into 9 modules over two years. Year 1 will ground you in creative design, development and production; alongside, 3D modelling and the fundamentals of game art. Year 2 builds on the skills learned and extends your knowledge base. You will tackle advanced game art practices; alongside extended 3D modelling, sculpting and rendering.

You can leave this course after successfully achieving year 1 and you will be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in this subject.

This can be achieved from a variety of qualifications including A Levels, Diploma's, Access To HE, T Levels, International Baccalaureates and Scottish Highers. GSCE requirements: GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4. If you do not meet the GCSE Maths requirement there may be an option to study Maths alongside the course. If you do not have the entry requirements but have sporting experience, we can ask you to complete an Entry Task and an offer may be made based on this. We recognise the individual nature of each application and our typical offer should be viewed as a guide. SGS welcomes interest from mature applicants who may not have the standard entry requirements. We will consider evidence of your relevant personal, professional or educational experience where it demonstrates an ability and potential to succeed on the course. Please include details of any relevant experience in your application. If English isn't your first language you will need to undertake an IELTS qualification achieving an overall grade of 6 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent) GSCE requirements: GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4.
