On our BSc Environmental Geoscience degree you'll gain a deep understanding of the Earth's environment and our impacts upon it.
This three-year course enables you to examine the interactions between the geology, biology, chemistry and physics of the Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere.
We're ranked second in the UK for 'Earth systems and environmental sciences' research (*THE* analysis of REF 2021) with an excellent reputation for teaching and learning.
You'll learn with experts whose research feeds directly into your studies at the cutting edge of scientific developments. Recent final-year units have included:
* Environmental Hydrogeology and Geoenergy
* Environmental Impact Assessment
* Oceans and Climates
* Radioactive Earth.
In your third year, you'll also undertake an independent project and explore the questions that matter most to you.
We're a friendly community with social events and informal seminars, both academic and industry-facing. During your course, you'll also have plenty of chances to develop hands-on experience through an extensive programme of fieldwork, both in the UK and overseas. Don't worry, the cost of this is included in your tuition fee. Field trips are a huge part of why our community is so close-knit. You'll have the chance to get to know your course mates and key staff, while honing your practical skills.
You'll develop skills highly valued by employers, from scientific and technical abilities, such as coding, numerical modelling, chemistry lab techniques and data analysis, to transferable skills, such as communication, creativity and resilience.
