Biological Sciences Bachelor of Science (with Honours) - BSc (Hons)

Biological Sciences is a broad subject that will help students understand the latest discoveries in the life sciences. This Honours programme provides students opportunities to explore the basis of life, how living things interact with each other, their populations, the environment, and the planet.

As students progress through their undergraduate studies they will have the opportunity to continue on a broad Biological Sciences pathway or complete their degree in a subject specific Life Sciences discipline (some pathways may have competitive entry requirements).

The principle aims are:

• To equip students with a fundamental understanding of Biological Sciences, and a competence in relevant scientific methods

• To stimulate and foster a sense of enthusiasm about contemporary approaches to understanding biological sciences research

• To provide advanced knowledge, understanding, scholarship and critical judgement appropriate for future professional employment or further study in biological sciences or a related discipline

• To develop advanced transferable, intellectual, interpersonal and practical skills applicable to a wide range of employment and further study

• To provide experience of planning, carrying out, analysing and reporting on scientific research in a relevant area of the biological sciences

• To expose students to a range of employers (Scottish, UK and international) and stakeholders to further develop their skills, employability & entrepreneurship

• To support and promote students to develop creative and innovative thinking, which might include the introduction of concepts and approaches that relate to real-world and commercial applications

• To encourage students to persevere through challenges and act resiliently.
