History with Italian Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) - BA (Hons)

The History portion of your programme is designed to move from breadth to depth; from directed to more independent learning; and to foster the development of advanced research techniques over the three years. You will start by exploring a broad range of historical periods in year one, some of which may be less familiar, giving you a good basis for making choices later in the degree. In years two and three, you will specialise progressively in aspects of the past that interest you the most, culminating in a major piece of independent research in the final semester of your degree.

The Italian component allows students to develop Italian language skills (whether from beginner or A level standard) to becoming a proficient user, as well as introducing them to practical, digital and mediation skills such as translation and interpreting. Students taking 25% Italian with the year abroad will also enhance their understanding of aspects of life and culture in Italy as well as developing their proficiency in the language, their intercultural and transnational awareness and communication abilities, and their practical and interpersonal employability skills.

Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law.
