If you've already developed a foundation in games, design, art or a related subject and want to turn that experience into a full honours degree, this one-year Top-Up course provides an opportunity to take your skills to a professional level.
Games Design (Top-Up) BA (Hons) is built around practical application, helping you strengthen your creative, technical and professional capabilities through portfolio-driven projects. You'll join current final-year Games Design students and work on substantial project work that allows you to demonstrate your abilities while building evidence of your skills for future opportunities.
You'll explore the complete game development process, from the earliest stages of idea generation through to release. Along the way, you'll deepen your understanding of how engaging player experiences are created while developing your ability to evaluate, refine and communicate design solutions.
A key strength of the course is its collaborative approach. You'll work alongside students from Games Programming and Games Art, gaining experience of multidisciplinary games development and learning how designers, artists and programmers work together to deliver successful projects. This reflects the realities of professional games production and helps you build valuable teamwork and project management skills.
You'll learn in dedicated Games laboratories with access to specialist facilities, including Wacom Cintiq and Wacom Intuos equipment, and benefit from input from industry professionals. Previous guest speakers have included representatives from Rare, Splash Damage, Codemasters, Ubisoft, Sony and other leading games organisations.
By graduation, you'll have produced a substantial portfolio that showcases your design thinking, creativity and practical development experience. Combined with an understanding of the full games production pipeline, this can help prepare you for the next stage of your professional journey within the games industry or related creative sectors.
