Why do children learn differently from one another? How do early experiences shape who we become? What helps people develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning? Psychology (Developmental and Educational) explores these questions, helping you understand how people grow, learn and develop throughout their lives.
This degree combines core psychological science with a specialist focus on developmental and educational psychology. You'll explore how cognitive, social and emotional development influences learning, behaviour and wellbeing, while discovering how psychological research can be applied within educational and developmental settings.
As your understanding grows, you'll examine topics such as child development, learning processes, individual differences, motivation and the factors that influence achievement and personal development. You'll develop insight into the opportunities and challenges people experience from early childhood through to adulthood, and how psychology can be used to support positive outcomes.
Learning extends beyond theory through practical activities, research projects and opportunities to apply psychological thinking to real-world issues. You'll learn how to investigate complex questions, evaluate evidence and use psychological knowledge to better understand human development and learning.
Alongside specialist subject knowledge, you'll develop valuable skills in research, communication, critical analysis and problem-solving. These highly transferable skills are valued across a wide range of professions and will help you approach complex issues with confidence and curiosity.
Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), this degree provides Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) on successful completion with the required classification, giving you the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. It also provides a strong foundation for careers and postgraduate study in areas such as educational psychology, child development, education, research, youth services and wider people-focused professions.
