Studying Architectural Environment Engineering gives you the skills and knowledge to directly reduce the carbon footprint of the built environment. You will develop the expertise to shape the design of smart and sustainable buildings. You'll learn about renewable energy generation, smart controls, thermal comfort (heating, cooling and ventilation), the acoustics of spaces and lighting design.

Our dedicated facilities include fluid and thermodynamics labs, renewable energy research workshops and collaborative engineering studios that mirror professional practice and promote peer learning. You’ll also have access to the [Creative Energy Homes](https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/creative-energy-homes/index.aspx "Overview of the Creative Energy homes project") (), a real-world laboratory for testing energy efficient building technologies.

In your third year, your industrial placement will enhance your skills and give you direct experience of the challenges and innovations in the field. Support will be provided throughout the process, from preparing applications and interviews to settling into your placement. Academic staff will remain closely involved through regular visits and ongoing contact, making sure your professional experience complements your academic development.

This course also prepares you for Chartered Engineer status once you complete the necessary training and experience.
