Civil engineers are instrumental in building a sustainable and more resilient future. By designing, constructing and maintaining the infrastructure that underpins people’s lives, they play a vital role in tackling global challenges such as climate resilience, sustainable development and urban regeneration. At Nottingham, our Civil Engineering programmes empower you to become a part of – and lead – that change.
Our BEng Civil Engineering including an Industrial Year programme equips you with the technical expertise, creative thinking and leadership skills to deliver high-profile projects. From buildings and urban developments to transport networks and water systems, you’ll learn to engineer solutions that are safe, efficient and environmentally responsible.
This four-year course combines rigorous academic study with hands-on experience on our award-winning University Park Campus. You’ll study core disciplines including structural engineering, geotechnics and fluid mechanics – and you’ll bring your learning to life through collaborative design projects that build expertise in construction management and sustainable development.
Learning goes beyond the classroom. Through site visits, access to extensive lab facilities and state-of-the-art surveying equipment, you’ll turn theory into practice and gain the confidence to lead in real-world environments.
A key feature of this programme is the integrated year in industry, where you’ll apply your learning in a professional setting. This experience not only deepens your understanding of how civil engineering operates in real-world contexts but also helps you discover new interests and passions and prepares you to step more confidently into the world of graduate employment.
This programme opens doors to careers in consultancy and contracting – as well as many other professions that value an analytical, creative mind. It is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators of the ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE and PWI, ensuring your degree meets industry standards.
