Technology is shaping the future, and you can be part of it. This course is perfect for you if you want to develop AI-driven solutions, push boundaries in computing and gain practical experience while studying.
You’ll spend your third year in industry – taking what you’ve learned and applying it to real projects. This is a great opportunity to gain invaluable work experience. Placements are usually paid and can even lead to a job offer before you graduate, giving you a head start in your career.
You’ll learn from leading researchers in AI and computer science, with access to 11 specialist research groups exploring areas like robotics, machine learning and human-computer interaction. These research groups inform our teaching, meaning you’ll benefit from the latest developments in AI research methods.
For example, you’ll learn about cutting-edge approaches in areas such as intelligent agents, large language models (LLMs), fuzzy logic, evolutionary algorithms and modern search techniques. You might recognise some of our experts from the popular Computerphile YouTube channel.
At Nottingham, we teach computer science from the ground up, ensuring you cover everything you need to know about the core foundations of the field. From day one, you'll engage in practical problem-solving experiences, getting to grips with how computers work. As you progress on the course, you’ll be able to specialise and tailor your degree to your interests and career ambitions.
And, as a BCS accredited degree, you can be assured of a top-quality education that is globally recognised.
You’ll gain substantial hands-on experience through projects, including a group project in your second year, where you’ll bid for work with industry sponsors or our innovative research groups. This project gives you the chance to tackle genuine challenges and build valuable connections. Hear about the project from our students.
Our school is expanding and we have highly enthusiastic, skilled and helpful staff who are dedicated to supporting you throughout your studies. You’ll also have plenty of industry and networking opportunities. Our graduates have gone on to work for top companies like IBM, Dyson, Jaguar Land Rover and Bank of America.
Within our school, you’ll also have the flexibility to transfer to a related programme any time before the middle of your second year – such as our Computer Science with Year in Industry BSc.
Course highlights:
* Our software engineering group project gives you practical experience of working with an industry sponsor or university research team.
* Learn from world-leading experts in our growing school. Highlights include our Mixed Reality Lab, Cobot Maker Space, and Cyber Security and Robotics groups.
* Opportunity to study abroad at our campuses in China or Malaysia or at a partner institution in countries such as Australia or Canada.
