BSc (Hons) Marketing with Events Management recognises that marketing is a driving force behind successful organisations and memorable experiences. The programme combines the multi-faceted nature of marketing with the creative, operational and experiential dimensions of events management. Students build a strong foundation in consumer behaviour, customer insight, branding, marketing communications, services marketing and strategic marketing, alongside an understanding of how events are researched, designed, promoted, delivered and evaluated.
Employability is embedded throughout the programme through authentic assessment, live client briefs and opportunities to engage with real event-related projects. Students apply theory to practical organisational challenges and gain experience in event planning, audience engagement, promotion, stakeholder management, operational delivery and evaluation. These activities support the development of a professional portfolio demonstrating both marketing capability and the practical skills required to contribute to the successful delivery of events.
The programme draws on the established strengths and external recognition of Marketing at the University of Plymouth. The core marketing curriculum maintains alignment with the knowledge and professional capabilities valued by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, including customer insight, marketing planning, ethical decision-making and professional communication. Industry-informed teaching, employer engagement and support from the University’s Careers Service ensure continued relevance to contemporary professional practice.
Students develop their knowledge progressively across marketing, business and events management. They move from foundational study in marketing, consumer behaviour and organisational operations to more specialist learning in festival and event management, event project delivery and evaluation, strategic marketing, event industry issues, and creativity and innovation in events. This integrated approach prepares graduates to work across commercial, cultural, sporting, community and visitor-economy contexts.
The programme also enables students to explore local, national and global issues such as sustainability, inclusion, technological change and the wider social and economic impacts of marketing and events. Through collaborative projects and an individual final-year dissertation, students investigate topics aligned with their interests and career aspirations while developing research, critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities. Personal and professional resilience is embedded across the student experience, with students developing confidence, adaptability, creativity, teamwork and reflective practice. Dedicated careers provision and an optional placement year support preparation for placements and graduate employment in marketing, events management and related industries.
