Business Computing Bachelor of Science (with Honours) - BSc (Hons)

Our Business Computing degree gives you both business knowledge and technical computing skills. You’ll learn how to create IT solutions that help businesses work smarter. These skills are in high demand. Businesses rely on IT professionals to stay competitive and optimise costs in rapidly evolving digital environments (Credence Research 2024).

### Study a combination of computing science and business topics

On our BSc Business Computing you’ll study modules from Computing Science, Business Studies, Marketing and Management Science. You’ll develop a broad base of business and computing skills through theory and practice. You’ll:

* learn programming and scripting in languages such as Java, Python, SQL, PHP;

* complete a Management Challenge applying management theories and practices. You'll produce a short video-based mini documentary;

* develop a viable business proposition and communicate it effectively;

* learn how to understand and apply sustainability in organisational management;

* carry out a group software implementation project;

* gain tools and knowledge for project management;

* apply your learning by completing an independent computing project that reflects your interests. For example, designing and developing software or creating control software for hardware.

### Get prepared for the world of work

As part of our degree in Business Computing, you can get hands-on experience on a three-month summer placement or a one-year placement. They can be with local or national companies. Our placements, internships and industry liaison ensure great networking opportunities. We have links with many organisations including:

You can take a module covering professional skills for students. It prepares you for placement applications and job applications on graduation. You’ll work on a career development action plan. You’ll develop your CV and professional social network profile.

You’ll also practice elevator pitches and other interview skills. Industry representatives will explain what they are looking for in their future recruits.

There’s lots of active student-led societies that you can be part of to enhance your practical skills:

* The Computer Club has activities include programming events, projects and technology debates.

* Stirling University Marketing Society. They aim to enhance your industry-relevant skills and give marketing a practical context.

* Stirling Consulting Group. They explore the world of consulting through workshops, case competitions and pro bono projects.

* Stirling Entrepreneurs Society. You'll get hands-on experience through skills workshops, pitch challenges and founder talks.
