English and Creative Writing and Spanish BA (Hons)

Our approach to the English & Creative Writing course is innovative, modern and friendly, giving you a comprehensive understanding of English literature as a core basis for your creative work.<br/><br/>With us, you can study everything from poetry, the novel and drama (stage, screen and radio) as you would expect on an English and Creative Writing degree, but in addition, at Strathclyde, we offer the opportunity to use creative writing skills as part of your approach to literary criticism.<br/><br/>With more than 500 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world. Speaking Spanish will help you conduct business more confidently in countries that are becoming increasingly important in world markets.<br/><br/>Studying with us will give you the chance to become a fluent linguist and, with our year abroad programme, an opportunity to experience living, working and/or studying in another country.<br/><br/>Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are initially broad-based. In Year 1, youll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).<br/><br/>Ranked Top 10 in the UK for English (The Times/Sunday Times University Ranking 2025) and Top 10 in the UK for Creative Writing (Complete University Guide 2025); Ranked Top 10 in Scotland for Iberian Languages (The Times/Sunday Times University Ranking 2025)<br/><br/>This course is part of our flexible BA Humanities and Social Science Degree programme. With our BA (Honours) degree you can choose from subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences and Business, with two of your three subject choices taught by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. <br/><br/>The BA degree is a three year course and the Honours degree is normally a four year course. This allows you to try new subjects, develop your own ideas, develop a broad range of knowledge and enhance your employability. <br/><br/>You should only enter one of the UCAS codes on your application form. Acceptance on one of these subject codes will enable you to study any combination of subjects. Only one application will be considered.
