History and Law BA (Hons)

Studying history - the story of humanity through the ages - develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present. Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotlands Highland Problem in the 16th Century, Slavery in World History, and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.<br/><br/>There are a number of ways you can study Law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject. Law is concerned with the study of the obligations, duties and rights which every member of society has in relation to one another and to the state. Please note that studying Law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in Law students follow the LLB programme. The study of Law is regarded not as purely vocational, but part of a broader education.<br/><br/>Studying History & Law, youll benefit from excellent teaching in a range of professionally relevant areas, such as problem-solving, communication, research methods, and interpretation that enhance your employability.<br/><br/>Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are initially broad-based. In Year 1, youll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).<br/><br/>Ranked Top 10 in the UK for History (The Times/Sunday Times University Ranking 2025); Ranked Top 10 in the UK for Law (The Times/Sunday Times University Ranking 2025).<br/><br/>Please note: studying law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in Law, students should follow the LLB programme.<br/><br/>This course is part of our flexible BA Humanities and Social Science Degree programme. With our BA (Honours) degree you can choose from subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences and Business, with two of your three subject choices taught by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. <br/><br/>The BA degree is a three year course and the Honours degree is normally a four year course. This allows you to try new subjects, develop your own ideas, develop a broad range of knowledge and enhance your employability. <br/><br/>You should only enter one of the UCAS codes on your application form. Acceptance on one of these subject codes will enable you to study any combination of subjects. Only one application will be considered.
