### Why choose this course at Sussex?
* Graduate ready to hit the ground running in careers in heritage, archives, museums, education, policy, research and public history.
* Build the research and interpretive skills to work with texts, archives and historical evidence.
* Gain the confidence to interpret evidence and communicate the past to new audiences.
Literature and historical narratives have challenged authority, amplified marginalised voices, and forged new ways of seeing and being. Joining us, you’ll become part of a dynamic community of students and experts who are passionate about words, ideas and the past’s power to transform the present.
English at Sussex is more than the study of great books. It’s political, creative and practical. You’ll:
* engage with literature from across time and place, from Shakespeare to graphic novels
* explore how literature speaks to major global issues, from climate justice to artificial intelligence
* develop your own critical and creative voice through diverse forms of writing.
History at Sussex prepares you to act. It’s for you if you want to use the past to make a difference. You’ll:
* explore global and diverse topics, from the history of emotions to digital history
* work on real-world projects, from developing exhibitions with local museums to contributing to public debates on reparations, migration and democracy.
Throughout your degree, you’ll learn to gather and interpret evidence, write with purpose, and communicate across platforms. You’ll have access to archives including the Mass Observation Archive and the University’s unique collections on decolonisation. You can choose interdisciplinary modules, as well as apply to go on placement or to study abroad.
When you graduate, you’ll have the critical-thinking, research and communication skills employers are looking for. You’ll be well prepared for careers in fields such as publishing, heritage, media, law, education, policy and the creative industries.
