With us, historical understanding and philosophical insight combine to inspire new ways of thinking.
On this course, you’ll enjoy innovative and diverse teaching, embracing global as well as Western perspectives. You’ll discover how history was made and shaped by people of the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, as well as Britain, Europe and the Americas. You’ll explore this not just by looking at leaders and politicians, but by studying the lives and actions of ordinary men and women. Using analytic and continental methodologies, you’ll tackle philosophical issues, and become adept at theoretical philosophy and its applications across society today.
You’ll join a community that is friendly, supportive, and committed to using history and philosophy for the greater benefit of society.
From day one, you’ll be guided in applying history and philosophy to real-world challenges. You’ll work on specific projects with a variety of institutions and local partners. Recent students have worked with London’s Museum of Youth Culture and Brighton’s Old Police Cells Museum.
You’ll learn to use academic knowledge in the context of public debate and societal change. This could include working in a student team to address a live brief from one of our partner organisations – a valuable real-world experience to add to your CV.
Through this hands-on approach, you’ll develop essential strengths in analysis, communication, collaboration, empathy and imagination. You’ll learn to communicate compelling historical narratives in a range of formats. This could include documentaries, podcasts and digital media. When you graduate, you’ll be well prepared for careers in media, policy, education, heritage and beyond.
