### Why choose this course at Sussex?
* Analyse the past while building hands-on media, heritage and digital skills, gaining the confidence to excel in diverse modern careers.
* Choose from a global range of specialist history modules and electives to shape a degree that matches your interests and ambitions.

At Sussex, historical understanding becomes a tool for positive change.
From history of emotions, to environmental history, and to histories of rave, fashion and youth culture – you’ll shape your degree around the histories that matter to you. You’ll discover how history was made and shaped by people of the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and the Caribbean as well as Britain, Europe and the Americas. You’ll explore this not just by looking at leaders and politicians, but by studying the lives and actions of ordinary men and women.
This course isn’t about memorising facts and dates. Instead, you’ll apply historical knowledge to real-world challenges. These include urgent global issues such as reparations, migration and democracy, as well as specific projects with local heritage and charity partners. Recent students have worked with London’s Museum of Youth Culture and Brighton’s Old Police Cells Museum.
During your studies, you’ll:
* learn from lecturers who are passionate about history’s value and ongoing relevance
* communicate compelling historical narratives in a range of formats including documentaries, podcasts and digital media
* take electives from other subjects to open your mind to other disciplines and tailor your degree to your interests
* have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a range of archives, including the nearby Mass Observation Archive and our Library’s spectacular collection of decolonisation materials.
Through our hands-on approach, you’ll gain the critical skills you’ll need for careers in media, policy, education, heritage, and beyond. You’ll be able to gather evidence, analyse and research independently. You’ll work creatively and collaboratively, building teamworking skills, as well as a capacity for empathy and imagination.
This degree is for you if you want to make a difference in the world. History may be about the past – our graduates shape the future.
