As a product designer, you can help create positive change. At Sussex, you’ll learn how to design products that meet real human needs while supporting a more sustainable future.

Our Product Design degree focusses on the principles of the circular economy. You’ll develop a broad range of creative, technical and professional skills, including:

* sketching and visual communication

* computer-aided design (CAD)

* prototyping and testing

* materials and manufacturing

* user research and design thinking

* business and commercial awareness.

You’ll work on projects from concept to creation. This means learning everything from understanding users and their needs to evaluating environmental impacts.

Learning is hands-on and collaborative. You’ll work independently and in teams, building confidence through real-world projects. There are opportunities to work on live industry briefs and tackle genuine design challenges.

At Sussex, Product Design is a supportive community and you’ll be taught by experienced designers. We also align the course to the Design Council’s 2025 ‘Skills for Planet Blueprint’, which outlines the essential skills necessary for professional, forward thinking designers. Everything you learn will help you develop the skills designers need today and in the future.
