The BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence in Business Management is designed for students who want to understand how artificial intelligence can be used to solve business problems, improve organisational performance and shape the future of work. The programme brings together the scientific and technical foundations of AI with the knowledge and skills needed to understand how organisations operate, make decisions and respond to technological change.
Students will develop skills in programming, data analysis and the practical application of AI, alongside an understanding of business management, strategy, entrepreneurship, customer behaviour and responsible business practice. They will learn how to interpret data, evaluate AI-generated results, assess the suitability of different approaches to business problems and communicate evidence-based recommendations. The programme also considers the ethical, social and organisational implications of AI, including questions of privacy, fairness, accountability and the changing nature of work.
A key feature of the programme is its emphasis on applying knowledge to realistic business challenges. Through practical exercises, case studies and *The Business Lab: Real-World Consulting in Action*, students will have opportunities to connect their learning with organisational problems and develop their analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. The programme's progression from introductory programming and AI at Level 4 to applied AI at Level 5 and more advanced specialist study and independent research at Level 6 will enable students to build their capabilities over time.
The programme is distinctive in bringing together technical AI development and business management within a single degree. Rather than focusing exclusively on the development of AI systems or on the management of technology, it aims to help students understand both how AI techniques work and how their use can be evaluated in a business context. Students will consider not only what AI can do, but also whether a particular solution is appropriate, reliable, responsible and valuable to an organisation.
At Level 6, optional modules will allow students to explore areas aligned with their interests, including Deep Learning, Developing Organisational Strategy in the Digital Age, Agentic AI Applications, and Privacy and Data Protection. The Research Investigation will provide an opportunity to examine a focused research question in greater depth. Together, these elements will allow students to develop particular interests while gaining a broad understanding of the relationship between AI, business and society.
The programme is intended to prepare graduates for a range of developing career opportunities in areas such as business and data analysis, AI-enabled business operations, digital transformation, technology consultancy and business intelligence, depending on their individual skills, experience and further professional development. It will also provide a foundation for further study in relevant areas.
Industry perspectives may be incorporated through guest speakers and engagement with business practitioners. Business visits and visits to innovation hubs may also be considered where suitable opportunities are available. These activities would complement the programme's applied focus by helping students understand how organisations are exploring and using AI in practice.
Overall, the programme offers students the opportunity to combine technical understanding, business awareness and responsible decision-making. It is suited to applicants who are interested in both AI and business and who want to develop the skills to assess, apply and manage AI-enabled approaches to real organisational challenges.
