A Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) is similar to a Higher National Diploma (HND). A Diploma of Higher Education is an accredited professional qualification, which are highly respected by employers in the UK and abroad.

How long does it take to complete a Diploma of Higher Education?

A DipHE typically takes two years to complete if studied full-time. They are typically worth 240 credit points, with 120 points at Level 7 and at least 80 from Level 8. A Bachelor’s degree is worth 360 credit points when all three years is completed. Therefore, a DipHE is similar to the first two years of an undergraduate degree, and Level 7 and Level 8 is similar to Level 4 and Level 5 within a Bachelor’s degree.

What entry requirements do I need to study a Diploma of Higher Education?

Students will need A-Levels, BTECs and standard GCSEs to gain access on to a DipHE course. Students are advised to check with their Further Education College or university as to what entry requirements are needed for that particular course.

Students can either choose to enter the world of work, as this type of qualification does prepare students for a particular career sector, or choose to gain admission onto a Bachelor’s degree. You can normally convert your Higher Education Diploma to a degree with an extra year of study.

What is a Diploma of Higher Education equivalent to?

A full-time, two-year DipHE course is normally equivalent to the first two years of an undergraduate degree. It can also be used for entry to the third year of a related degree course if a student wishes to gain a bachelor’s degree. A DipHE is also equivalent to a Higher National Diploma (HND).
