Why Education and Psychology BA (Hons)

This course explores how psychological theory helps us understand learning, development and wellbeing in education. Students examine how people think, feel and behave, and how this insight can be used to support learners more effectively.

Core areas include topics such as child development, mental health and wellbeing, identity, motivation and behaviour, alongside themes like inclusive practice, social justice and how education systems respond to different needs. Teaching is interactive and discussion-based, using lectures, seminars and workshops to apply theory to real-world challenges.

Students develop critical thinking, research and analytical skills, with opportunities for independent study and inquiry-based projects. Learning is supported by digital tools, and assessment is varied, including essays, presentations and research tasks. Placements and professional practice modules allow students to apply theory in real educational settings.

Graduates are prepared for a range of people-focused careers such as learning mentor, behaviour or wellbeing support roles, youth and family support work, and inclusion-focused positions. The course also supports progression into psychology-related roles and postgraduate study in education, mental health and related fields
